Prodigal
Privacy Policy
Effective 19 August 2026
Prodigal is a Catholic companion app. What you tell it is between you, God, and your own device — our job is to keep it that way. This policy says in plain language what we store, why, and what we will never do with it.
What we collect
When you use Prodigal, we store the following, tied to an anonymous account created automatically on your device (no email, name, or password is required to walk the app today):
- Your questionnaire answers — the themes you choose (for example "anxiety" or "grief"), used only to match you with a saint.
- Your companion and history — which saint you walk with, past companions, and your streak of open days.
- What you write — your optional reflection note, journal pages, candle intentions, and check-ins. These are private to your account. We never analyze, sell, or train anything on them.
- Subscription status — whether your account has an active subscription. Payment itself is handled entirely by Apple; we never see your card details.
What we don't do
- No advertising, and no advertising trackers.
- No analytics profiles of your spiritual life.
- No selling, renting, or sharing of your data with third parties.
- No AI training on anything you write.
- No reading of your private notes by people, except if strictly required to investigate abuse or by law.
Where your data lives
Your data is stored with Google Firebase (Firestore), in the United States, under industry-standard encryption in transit and at rest. Daily lines shown on your lock-screen widget are stored on your own device.
Deleting everything
In the app: MORE → Remove my account and all its data. This permanently deletes your account and everything attached to it — companion history, candles, journal, notes — from our servers. There is no grace period and no backup copy we keep.
Children
Prodigal is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (including California and the EU/EEA), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data. Because Prodigal accounts are anonymous, the deletion tool in the app is the fastest way to exercise them. For anything else, write to us and we will help.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will update the date above and say so plainly in the app. We will never quietly weaken it.
